Want to taste a bit of culture and history during your stay on Curaçao? Then the Quarantine Building is definitely recommended.
Caracasbaai Quarantine Building is one of the historic remains of Curaçao. The Caracas Bay area was designated a quarantine station for ships with contagious people on board in 1874. The Quarantine Building was built in 1883. This building was the observation facility for healthy sailors, who had to stay here until it was determined that they were not infected.
Another incredible piece of Curacao's heritage - left to rot. I fell in love with this building on my first day there. High ceilings with elegant supporting columns. Plantation blinds could filter strong sunlight and cool the interior - which could be more internal Dino possibilities, and the upstairs could be converted into guest rooms or a chic art gallery. Instead, this incredible building is slowly rotting away, ravaged by graffiti and further evidence of a huge investment opportunity that has been lost. Loved the location and building - hated the neglect and graffiti…
