How does refuelling on Curaçao work?
Refuelling on Curaçao works a little differently than in the Netherlands. When you drive up, park your car at the pump and walk to the window where an employee is sitting, mention the amount you want to fill up for and your pump number and then you can fill up. You often have to lift a black lever at the pump before the hose works.
Most petrol estaions are open from 7am and close between 7-11pm. Some petrol stations allow you to fill up unmanned and some are open 24/7.
How expensive is petrol on Curaçao?
Petrol on Curaçao is cheaper than in the Netherlands, prices are around 2/3 guilders per litre, which is around 1/1.50 euro (depending on the exchange rate).
What if there is a car accident in Curaçao?
This is not to be hoped for but can of course always happen! On Curaçao this goes a little differently than in the Netherlands. When an accident happens you leave your car at the exact spot of the accident and check of course that everyone involved is okay. After this you call the "Curaçao Road Service" this number is 199, they will come by to assess the damage and take a statement. If your car needs to be towed you can call the road service 9247. And of course inform your rental company!
